Dr. Makaila Esquivel was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, where she first discovered her passion for health and helping others. While completing a student internship in Vancouver, she quickly fell in love with the city and its active lifestyle, ultimately deciding to make Vancouver her new home.

Dr. Esquivel attended the University of Calgary, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies with minors in Psychology and Biological Sciences. She then pursued her chiropractic education at the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree cum laude. From a young age, Dr. Esquivel knew she wanted a career in healthcare that would allow her to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

As a chiropractor, she is passionate about helping individuals move better, feel stronger, and live healthier lives through natural, evidence-based care. She believes that medicine does not always have to mean medication and is dedicated to educating patients on the benefits of conservative, hands-on treatment and preventative care. Dr. Esquivel takes a multidisciplinary and personalized approach to healthcare, understanding that every patient has unique goals, lifestyles, and needs. She works collaboratively with patients to develop individualized treatment plans that support recovery, improve function, and promote long-term health and wellness.

Her treatment approach focuses on evidence-based care and a variety of hands-on techniques, including chiropractic manipulation, joint mobilization, soft tissue therapy, instrument-assisted soft tissue therapy (IASTM), and cupping therapy. These techniques help restore mobility, reduce pain, and support the body’s natural healing process while helping patients return to the activities they enjoy.

Dr. Esquivel is Webster Certified through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), allowing her to provide specialized care for prenatal patients and children. She welcomes patients of all backgrounds and stages of life, from children and families to athletes and everyday workers looking to move and feel their best. Growing up in a Filipino household, Dr. Esquivel is fluent in Tagalog, allowing her to connect with and serve a broader community of patients.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Esquivel enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors, with the beach being one of her favourite places to relax and recharge. She loves travelling, spending time with friends and family, and participating in activities such as workout classes, strength training, golfing, and snowboarding. She also embraces her foodie side and enjoys trying new restaurants and exploring different cuisines wherever she goes. Dr. Esquivel hopes to empower her patients through education and movement, encouraging people of all ages to live active, healthy lifestyles. Her goal is to help patients seek chiropractic care not only as treatment for pain, but as an important part of maintaining long-term health and wellness.
